SSU’s Director for International Affairs, Dr. Elmer A. Irene, and International Quality Assurance Staff, Ariel N. Abarratigue, attended the online “Inception Meeting of International Relations Officers and IZN Focals for ASEAN Celebration 2024” hosted by CHED Regional Office 8 (CHEDRO8) on June 18, 2024.
The meeting commenced when Mr. Grant Jason Dimay of CHEDRO8 presented the agenda including: Tentative Activities and Proposed Schedules; Assignment of ASEAN Member Country to HEIs; Databasing of IRO’s or HEIs IZN Focal; and Training Needs Assesment. Following this, Dr. Catherine O. Iglesias of CHEDRO8 elaborated on the details of each agenda item.
During the meeting, Higher Education Institutions were assigned to different ASEAN Member countries, which they will be representing during the ASEAN Celebration 2024. Through an online lottery app, Samar State University (SSU) has drawn Laos. This assignment entails that SSU representatives will wear traditional costumes and present a dance number that reflect and promote the interests and heritage of Laos during the celebration.
International Relations Officers (IROs) from different State University Colleges (SUCs) and Private Higher Education Institutions (PHEIs) attended the said meeting including Samar State University, Biliran Province State University, Eastern Samar State University, Franciscan College of the Immaculate Conception, Leyte Normal University, Northwest Samar State University, Palompon Institute of Technology, San Lorenzo Ruiz College of Ormoc, Southern Leyte State University, St. Paul School of Professional Studies, Visayas State University, Leyte Colleges, and Holy Infant College.
The meeting successfully laid the foundation for a vibrant and collaborative ASEAN Celebration 2024. Samar State University (SSU) is excited to represent Laos, preparing to honor and showcase its rich cultural heritage through traditional costumes and performances. The participation of various International Relations Officers from State Universities, Colleges, and Private Higher Education Institutions promises a diverse and enriching celebration ahead.
