Samar State University (SSU) continues to expand its global engagements as Ms. Maria Angie T. Suarez Del Real, MLIS, RL, University Librarian, represented the University at the International Conference on Good Practices in Library Management on October 31, 2025. Her participation continued with the Library Staff Exchange and Mobility Program at the Center of Excellence in Learning Resources and Academic Support (CELRAS) of Tra Vinh University (TVU) in Vietnam from November 3 to 7, 2025.
The international conference, organized by TVU CELRAS, brought together librarians, educators, and academic leaders from across Asia to share exemplary practices and explore emerging trends in library administration. Speakers from institutions in Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, and Singapore offered insights on digital transformation, user-centered service models, preserving institutional legacy, and building the capacities of library personnel. Representing Samar State University, Ms. Del Real delivered her presentation titled “Thriving Beyond Limits: Innovation and Good Practices of Library Management in Samar State University,” where she highlighted the University’s strong commitment to continuous innovation, modernization, and service improvement. The open forum encouraged further exchange of ideas on digital equity, international linkages, budgeting concerns, and the evolving role of academic libraries in supporting instruction and research.
After the conference, Ms. Del Real took part in the week-long staff mobility program at TVU CELRAS, where she gained firsthand experience of the center’s integrated approach to learning support. CELRAS provides spaces designed for collaborative learning, digital production, research consultations, and independent study. These are supported by smooth access to digital repositories and strong academic partnerships across ASEAN. The center’s combination of library services, e-learning support, instructional materials development, and academic skill-building makes it a forward-looking model for modern learning spaces.
As part of the mobility program, the delegation had the opportunity to benchmark with two institutions in Ho Chi Minh City. At the University of Management and Technology (UMT), Ms. Del Real observed a student-centered environment with modern learning areas, RFID-enabled systems, automated inventory processes, and flexible spaces that support both individual and group learning. Her visit to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh (USSH VNUHCM) showcased a library enriched with extensive physical and digital collections, technology-supported study areas, research analytics services, an ongoing digitization program, and accessibility tools for users with disabilities. The visit was further enriched by a tour of the USSH Museum, where historical and cultural exhibits added depth to academic appreciation and experiential learning.
The entire engagement in Vietnam highlighted the importance of adopting innovative technologies, creating user-friendly services, and building global partnerships to advance academic libraries. With the knowledge and insights she gained, Ms. Del Real is well positioned to contribute meaningfully to the enhancement of services, operations, and internationalization initiatives of the SSU Libraries. Her participation reflects SSU’s strong dedication to strengthening global linkages, improving learning resources, and fostering a library environment that continues to adapt to the changing needs of students, faculty, and researchers.
