Guidelines

ObjectiveSamar State University (SSU) shall continue to find ways to achieve its Internationalization goal and encourage its alumni and faculty to pursue graduate studies as stated in its Strategic goal. Offering of a scholarship program in an international Master’s degree will not only achieve its goal to pursue international education but can also help potential students specially SSU alumni to pursue graduate studies.

The twinning program mutually agreed by SSU and Tra Vinh University (TVU) have been approved by the board of Regents through BOR Resolution No. 4, series of 2021 and had its signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between the two universities on August 5, 2021. The non-thesis Master’s Degree of Education in English Language Teaching (MEELT) program was the upgraded MAED-English program of SSU to fit to a Twinning program to cater international students especially during this time of pandemic.
QualificationsThe applicant MUST:
A. Be a Filipino citizen and not more than 45 years old;
B. He/she must be an alumnus/alumnae of SSU of a Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English program;
C. For a faculty member, he/she must be a fulltime faculty member with at least 12 units of teaching load in SSU;
D. Employed in a government agency anywhere in Samar or if not yet employed willing to be employed in a government agency in Samar to render a return-service contract of scholarship;
E. Have no master’s degree/doctorate degree;
F. Have a good academic record;
G. Be in good health and of good moral character;
H. Have no pending criminal/administrative charges or must not have been convicted for violation of any Philippine Law (Certification must be obtained from appropriate agencies); and
I. Have no other scholarship at the time of application. Application for joint scholarships may be considered provided there is no duplication of privileges and benefits.
PrivilegesSubject to availability of funds and in accordance with the usual accounting laws, rules and regulations, the GRANTEE is entitled of the following:
1. SSU will waive its tuition to the grantee and will pay the tuition fee for TVU;

2. SSU will pay the Grantee’s application and program fees, and other school fees agreed by SSU and TVU;

3. SSU will reimburse the One-time payment of Grantee’s expenses for review lesson of IELTS as well as the IELTS exam fees;

4. SSU will reimburse the Grantee’s load data expenses per week not exceeding P300 per week during the course of the grantee’s schooling; and

5. SSU will arrange for the Grantee’s visit to TVU for an in-campus cultural exchange orientation at TVU, should the Grantee decides for this voluntary inter-campus mobility.
Application Procedure1. Candidate must undergo SSU Graduate School Admission procedure and upon admission into the MEELT graduate program, submits the following papers directly to the contact person/program coordinator: a) Accomplished Application Forms; b) Signed scholarship agreement and MEELT Scholarship Contract for the current year; c) Certificate of Employment, if employed; d) Transcript of Records; e) NSO authenticated Birth Certificate; f) Medical Certificate issued by a government physician (within the last six months); and g) NBI Clearance issued within the last six months.

2. The program coordinator endorses the applicant to the Dean of the Graduate School for recommendation.

3. The Secretary of the Graduate School forwards to the Scholarship committee the documents of applicants who have passed SSU’s Graduate School admission requirements.

4. Scholarship committee evaluates and approves the final list of qualified applicants then sends the information and Scholarship Contracts to the University President.

5. Once the scholarship grant is approved, the Grantee must secure notarial seal of the Scholarship Contract and Agreement.
