In celebration of “Buwan ng ASEAN: Sama-sama sa Pag-unlad,” Samar State University’s (SSU) Office of International Affairs proudly hosted the much anticipated ASEAN Quiz Bee and ASEAN Map Challenge on the morning of August 27, 2025, at the Convention Center. The competition, filled with energy and anticipation, was expertly facilitated by quizmaster Prof. Jhonil Bajado, Head, SSU Archives and Museum and currently the Faculty Regent.
The contest drew in nine determined teams representing SSU’s colleges: College of Education (2), College of Engineering (1), College of Arts and Sciences (2), College of Nursing and Health Sciences (2), and College Industrial Technology (2). Each team displayed remarkable wit, speed, and teamwork in answering challenging questions about ASEAN.
After an intense and closely fought showdown, Joshua Aying and Steven Marion Jaromay of the College of Education emerged as champions, maintaining their lead across all three rounds. Following closely behind, Fiel Clarette R. Tongol and John Miles C. Villarante secured second place, while Marjorie O. Tan and Jerson H. Lapura proudly took third—both teams representing the College of Arts and Sciences.
Beyond the competition, the event stood as a celebration of knowledge, unity, and cultural pride. It not only showcased the students’ academic excellence but also strengthened their appreciation of ASEAN’s shared identity and its spirit of unity in diversity.
