To seal the partnership between Samar State University and the Recognized Dormitories/Boarding Houses, a signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was conducted last August 31, 2022. A simple program was attended by nine (9) Private Boarding House Operators Dr. Edelyn Echapare, Mr. Roger Gudian, Ms. Rebecca Jaba-an, Ms. Elenita Yamugan, Ms. Crispina Sanzol, Ms. Myrna Grata, Ms. Judelyn Lauzon, Ms. Ma. Lorna Yangzon (representative), and Ms. Ma. Nadia Babon. The Director for Auxiliary and Head of Student Housing Services Ms. Lorena Ortiz together with the Director for International Affairs Dr. Elmer Irene and OIAs staff facilitated the MOA signing ceremony.
This MOA signing is the beginning of the realization of the initial talks of the partnership last July 15, 2022. The program started with prayer, singing of the national anthem, ASEAN, and SSU hymn. It was opened by Engr. Ma. Lourdes Amante and presented the Private Boarding House Operators from Brgy. Guindapunan. A message from Ms. Lorena Ortiz followed, expressing hope that the partnership will bring a significant impact on the welfare of the students. Dr. Elmer Irene in his rationale ensures that SSU achieves its QS Stars Rating of contributing to its vision to be among the top 200 in HEIs in Asia in 2040. Hon. Christian Montejo in his short message well placed to extend his support for the said collaboration. Dr. Marilyn Cardoso pointed out in her remarks that SSU is already receiving several awards and recognitions and now SSU is creating sound on its name – not only in the Philippines but also in the World. She proudly said that SAMAR will always be part of the branding of SSU, “Samar is World Class, Samar is where a Global University is”.
After the messages, a reading of the contents of the MOA was facilitated by Ms. Rhea Parroco, an OIAs project staff. The roles of each party were elaborated on and explained in detail during the reading. After the MOA was finalized, multiple copies were signed by the two parties involved. The first party was signed by the University President Dr. Marilyn Cardoso. The Vice President for Student Affairs and Services Engr. Ma. Lourdes Amante, the Director for Auxiliary and Head of Student Housing Services Ms. Lorena Ortiz, the Brgy. Captain of Brgy. Guindapunan Hon. Christian Montejo, the Director for Institutional Student Program and Services Engr. Maricris Ediza, the Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Felisa Gomba, the Vice President for Research and Extension Services Dr. Ronald Orale, the Director for International Affairs Dr. Elmer Irene, and the Coordinator for International Student Exchange Mr. Pedro S. Cabarales were present as witnesses. The second party was signed by the Private Boarding House Operators Dr. Edelyn Echapare, Mr. Roger Gudian, Ms. Rebecca Jaba-an, Ms. Elenita Yamugan, Ms. Crispina Sanzol, Ms. Myrna Grata, Ms. Judelyn Lauzon, and Ms. Ma. Nadia Babon. Although two of the ten (10) Ms. Levia Jao and Ms. Ligaya Yangzon were not present during the MOA signing. A traditional picture taking took place after MOA signing for documentation purposes.
Wearing of face mask and other health protocols were observed in conducting the activity. After the MOA signing was done the agreement becomes effective immediately for a period of two (2) years.
