In commemoration of the 2025 ASEAN Month celebration, Samar State University (SSU) participated in the virtual ASEAN Celebration Kick-off Ceremony organized by CHED on August 4, 2025. The ceremony was attended by higher education institutions from across the region. Representing SSU was University President Dr. Redentor S. Palencia, along with the Vice Presidents, Deans, Directors, and Unit Heads of the University. With the theme “ASEAN 2025: Inclusivity and Sustainability” and the tagline “Buwan ng ASEAN: Sama-sama sa Pag-unlad,” the event highlighted the importance of regional solidarity and inclusive progress.
The event featured inspiring keynote messages from distinguished ASEAN community leaders. Guest speakers included Mr. Bolivar L. Bao of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Christelle Agustin of SEAMEO RIHED, and H.E. San Lwin, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN. Their messages aligned with the theme “ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future,” tackling the importance of education, cultural exchange, and unified development across Southeast Asia. Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis, Chairperson of CHED, also delivered an empowering message on regional cooperation in higher education.
The celebration continued with the “Parada ng ASEAN: Cultural March” and a musical intermission by Bulacan State University Rondalla, highlighting the rich cultural diversity of ASEAN nations. The program concluded with the awarding of winners and certificates of appreciation, followed by the stirring renditions of “Bagong Pilipinas Hymn” and “Pilipinas Kong Mahal” by Saring Himig. The formal exit of colors by the UP Rayadillo Honor Guards marked the end of a successful opening ceremony, setting the tone for a month of inclusive and sustainable celebration.
