Samar State University (SSU) has officially partnered with Tra Vinh University (TVU) in Vietnam and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 8, as they signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) today, September 12, via Zoom. This agreement sets the stage for the upcoming International Conference on Poverty Alleviation and Sustainable Development 2024 (iPOVCON 2024).
The ceremonial signing was graced by prominent SSU officials, including Dr. Redentor S. Palencia, University President; Dr. Sherrie Ann C. Labid, Executive Director for Research; Dr. Elmer A. Irene, Director for International Affairs, and his staff; Arianne Rose T. Salcedo, Executive Assistant; Ma. Trina Celine T. Cugtas, Board Secretary; and Christine Gloria Grace Capidos and Reuben Y. Corrige, both Science Research Specialists. Representing TVU were its key leaders, led by Dr. Chau Thi Hoang Hoa, Director for the Project Promotion Department of TVU. DOST Region 8 was also well-represented, with Lucia Dauz and Sheila Mae Pica in attendance.
This yearโs conference, scheduled for October 16-17, 2024, at the Summit Hotel in Tacloban City, will revolve around the theme, โEmpowering Communities through Sustainable Solutions and Innovations: Harnessing Change for Inclusive Growth.โ The event will feature two major tracks: (1) Sustainable Development Strategies for Inclusive Growth and (2) Innovative Technologies and Social Entrepreneurship for Social Impact.
As part of its ongoing efforts to break the cycle of poverty in the Philippines, SSU spearheads the annual Poverty Conference. Through partnerships with local and international academic institutions, government agencies, and local government units, SSU continues to contribute significantly to the pursuit of sustainable and inclusive development.
