The much-anticipated Teacher Training Workshop for Pre-Service Teachers, jointly organized by the Student Teaching Office (STO) in collaboration with the Regional English Language Office of the US Embassy in the Philippines, took place at the CAS AUDIO-VISUAL CENTER on February 1, 2024. This event holds the promise of a transformative experience for enthusiastic educators-to-be seeking to enhance and refine their skills in the art of teaching English to young learners.
The program commenced with a warm welcome from Dr. Elmer A. Irene, Director for International Affairs, who highlighted SSU’s roadmap to excellence, emphasizing research and innovation centers, awards, and student mobility initiatives. Dr. Laura B. Boller, Dean of the College of Education, seamlessly transitioned into introducing the day’s distinguished resource speaker after Manilyn Serpajuan-Sablan’s announcement of the event’s rationale.
Dr. Julie Goldman, the esteemed Director of Education Curriculum and Instruction at the San Diego County Office of Education, graced the stage as the resource speaker, setting an inspirational tone for the day with her extensive experience and unwavering passion for empowering educators.
The workshop delved into the crucial role of language enrichment in shaping effective teaching methods. Dr. Goldman eloquently emphasized the significance of understanding the linguistic needs of young learners, providing a solid foundation for their educational journey.
A total of ninety-six (96) participants from the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) and Bachelor of Early Childhood Education actively engaged in the event. They departed with not only valuable knowledge but also imperative skills, immersive experiences, and strategies to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of their teaching methods for young learners.
As the day unfolded, the synergy between passionate educators and Dr. Goldman’s expertise created an environment of shared learning and inspiration. The collaborative effort between the STO, Regional English Language Office, and the participants themselves promises to leave a lasting impact on the future of education.
