August 8, 2022

The ASEAN launching celebration at Samar State University held on August 8, 2022, themed “ASEAN A.C.T.: Addressing Challenges Together,” highlights ASEAN’s spirit of togetherness as one community with a single desire in its joint attempt to overcome challenges facing the region. The theme seeks to develop a harmonious ASEAN Community that is peaceful, secure, and prosperous, enabling ASEAN’s involvement with the wider region and regional solutions to the impacts and uncertainties posed by regional and global problems.

The Office of International Affairs of SSU spearheaded the launching of the ASEAN Month Celebration. The event commenced with the ribbon-cutting ceremony headed by Dr. Ronald Orale and assisted by Dr. Laura Boller, Dr. Elmer Irene, and Mr. Pedro Cabrales. The Director for International Affairs Dr. Elmer Irene gave his welcome speech together with the ASEAN greetings from Mr. Cao Dao Thep, the Vice Rector of Dong Thap University; Dr. Phung Van De, Tra Vinh University, Vietnam; and Dr. Durairaj Gavindasamy, Managing Director, Portsworld Academy Malaysia. Dr. Ronald Orale, the University Vice President for Research and Extension Services also gave his message highlighting the vision that the Philippines would be great as Singapore years from now. The Vice Presidents, Deans of the Colleges, Faculty, and COED students graced the said event and were overwhelmed by the stunning intermission performed by the selected BPEd students and SSU chorale, portraying the beauty of ASEAN Cultures as they performed Vietnamese dance and Waray-Waray folk songs. After the program, the students headed up to the Convention Center to witness the exhibit prepared by the United Architects of the Philippines Student Auxiliary – Samar State University Chapter (UAPSA). The overall activity reminds the SSU community to embrace the ASEAN spirit of unity notwithstanding its diversity.
