SSU Awarding and Closing Ceremony ASEAN Month Celebration 2022

Celebrating ASEAN Month was held to further promote and heighten awareness of the ASEAN and instill in the minds of the Filipino people the importance, value, and meaning of it in achieving and maintaining regional peace and sustainable development.

On the 31st of August 2022, the Awarding and Closing Ceremony of the ASEAN Month Celebration was held at the SSU Convention 3rd Floor spearheaded by the Office of International Affairs under Director Elmer A. Irene and attended by the key officials, Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso and the Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Felisa E. Gomba, Vice President for Research & Extension Services Dr. Ronald L. Orale, faculty and staff, performers, and students who won awards and prizes for various vivid activities during the launching of the ASEAN.

The program began with the invocation rites, which were followed by the opening remarks of the Coordinator of the International Student Exchange Pedro Cabrales, who noted the importance of the occasion and emphasized that the event was not closing but rather a work in progress.

Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso delivered and expressed her sincere appreciation to all the faculty and students for their strong support for the locals even during the Regional ASEAN Month Celebration. In her brief speech, she pointed out the true meaning of the ASEAN theme: ASEAN “A.C.T. Addressing Challenges Together” that Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The Ability to direct individual accomplishment toward organizational objectives and it is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.

She mentioned also how proud she is of how SSU brings and practices a world-class ranking university by producing professional talented students internationally.

The occasion was also an opportunity to showcase a rich and colorful display of cultural presentations of different talents of SSU students with the theme Katbari: Harvest of Waray-Samarnon Talents which they present at HEI Fair and ASEANWave Webxhibition Festival in commemoration of the 55th ASEAN Founding Anniversary in Robinson Tacloban Marasbaras last August 27, 2022.

Another highlight of the event is the awarding of all the winners for different activities.

As the program drew to a close, Head of Museum and Archives Jhonil C. Bajado shared his experience from his travel Abroad and emphasized how our ASEAN counterpart like Malaysia showed their Internationalization initiatives, that they never forget that we are in the ASEAN region, that we our neighbors, that we have friends who can give comfort and care out of our comfort zone.
