Samar State University (SSU) took a momentous step in preparing for the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking through Zoom orientation on July 25, 2023. Spearheaded by the Office of International Affairs, headed by Dr. Elmer A. Irene, and the Coordinator of International Student Exchange, Prof. Pedro S. Cabrales, the orientation aimed to equip the university community with essential insights to excel in the forthcoming THE Impact Ranking.
Dr. Christine Nabor-Ferrer, the Tarlac Agricultural University’s Director of External Linkages and International Affairs, served as the Resource Speaker during the orientation and provided a wealth of knowledge and experience in navigating the ranking system. The presentation by Dr. Nabor-Ferrer clarified the important details that the evaluation takes into account, particularly explaining the metrics and indicators of the said ranking. She also emphasized the significance of coordinating university activities with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which serve as the basis for THE Impact Ranking evaluation.
Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, the University president, expressed her enthusiasm for the orientation, stating, “Let us embrace the power of transformative higher education and gain valuable understanding that will enable us to leverage the THE Impact system to drive positive change.
The orientation also encouraged collaborative discussion among the participants, allowing them to generate innovative ideas and strategies to improve SSU’s performance in the rankings. The SSU community is united in its aim of making a significant impact on the world via education, research, and community engagement; thus, the university’s endeavor towards the THE Impact Ranking has now begun.
